James "Buster" Edward Chipman, Sr.

James Edward "Buster" Chipman, Sr., age 88, of Owenton, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at Frankfort Care and Rehab.

Born February 10, 1935, in the Poplar Grove community of Owen County, he was the son of the late John "Willie" and Hallie Herndon Slaughter Chipman. He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Prather Chipman; his daughters, Martha Jean Chipman and Doris Smith; his step-son, Billy Glass; and siblings, Harold Don Chipman, Beulah Mae Combs, Lawrence Slaughter, and Rosie Marie Case. Buster was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and worked for many years in concrete construction. He also spent several years driving a milk truck, school bus, dump truck, and concrete truck. He was known for growing a wonderful garden each year and blessing others with his harvest, especially the nursing home in Frankfort.

Buster will be missed by his children, Merolyn Sue Chipman, Jacqueline Chipman Brantley, Robert D. Chipman, James "Eddie" Chipman, Ruth Glass Salyer, and Eastland "E.T." Glass; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his brother Lowell T. Slaughter.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 5 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday with burial in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.
