James Edwin Brock, 95, passed away Tuesday January 9, 2024 at the Owenton Manor. He was born in Jonesville, KY the son of the late Hollie and Helen Caldwell Brock. He was also preceded by two brothers, Harold and Gerald Brock, one sister, Muriel Rose Walton, two nieces, Mary Helen New and Kim Brock, two nephews, Sam and David Walton and a niece Sonda Walton. He was also preceded by his longtime companion Naomi Carter Staples. "Uncle Jimmy" as he was known to most, was a hard-working, kind, and honest man who always had a smile and a good one-liner. He was a farmer in his early years raising tobacco, cattle, and hay. During his teenage years, a horse stepped on and broke his foot which didn't heal properly and later would keep him from serving full time in the Army. He tried but was honorably discharged after four months. He worked at a Chevrolet garage in LaGrange for about four years and then went to Belknap where he was in maintenance for 28 years. He was a saver and kept most anything in his well-organized shop. He loved working with his hands, fixing things, and fishing. He also loved kids and all his nieces and nephews became his children. He and Naomi spent over 30 years together and were in love the whole time always looking out for each other. Jimmy was baptized in Elk Lick Creek and attended Elk Lick Baptist with the family. He was truly grateful for all the care and time spent with him these past few years especially Ray with whom he developed a special bond. He is survived by his sister, Joyce True Hammond, nieces, Barbara and Wanda New, Sheila Cousin, Pam Maholski and Lori Fisher, nephews, Noel and Charles True, Steve and Gary Brock, and Eric Brock. Several great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
