Jackie McKenzie, born on May 5, 1947, in Grant County, Kentucky, passed away on February 25, 2026. He was a longstanding resident of Owenton and was known for his hard work and dedication throughout his life.
Jackie's career began as a delivery driver in Covington and Cincinnati, where he amusingly spent much of his time getting lost on his routes. He eventually returned to Owenton, and began tobacco farming. He then landed a job working alongside Bill and Billy Lathrem in the construction and carpet installation business, honing his skills under their guidance. He was always ready to lend a hand, doing odd jobs for neighbors and relatives whenever they needed assistance. In 1987, Jackie began working at Schlumberger, a role he cherished until his retirement, during which he made many lifelong friends.
Jackie's passions included tobacco farming, gardening, and canning homemade tomato juice and preserves. He loved making oyster stew and enjoyed fishing, despite his disdain for cleaning them. Many evenings saw him sitting on the porch, drinking coffee and chatting with his dear neighbors, Jim and Mary Knasel and Denny Townsend. Jackie also cherished his daily conversations with his brother, Danny, who has since passed.
Jackie was a proud grandfather, delighting in making his grandkids watch the Bloomberg Report as a playful form of punishment. He took immense pride in his ability to grow tobacco, a task that taught him the value of hard work.
His affection for his family was boundless. Jackie is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis McKenzie, and his daughters, Angie (Dale) Miller, Pam (Rob) Maloy, Cindy Farmer, and Stephanie (Tim) Simpson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jack Miller, Bethany Magee, Kayla Thompson, Charles Thompson, Alexis Maloy, Jeffrey Todd Smith, Marcus Smith, Dustin Smith, Pamela Faith Farmer, Jackie Kaye Rump, Vanessa Jones, and Michael Frost, 23 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Joyce Williams.
Jackie was preceded in death by his father, Oscar McKenzie, and mother, Goldie McKenzie. Also, his daughter, Jaqueline McKenzie, and his brothers, Ralph, Danny, and Junior McKenzie, as well as his sister, Juanita Kinman, and his grandson, Lucas Mikel Smith, have passed away.
To celebrate Jackie's life, a visitation will be held on March 2, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at New Funeral Homes located at 202 N. Main Street, PO Box 474, Owenton, KY 40359. Jackie's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lockport Baptist Church.
