Mr. Hubert "Henry" Hammond, age 93, of Owenton, passed away Sunday October 7th at the Mercy at Westpoint Care Center in Cincinnati. Born October 23, 1918, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Jimmy D. and Hattie Belle Jones Hammond. He was the widower of Thelma Ayres Hammond. Also preceding him in death were his four sisters and one brother. Mr. Hammond was a hard worker all his life, farming into his 80's, in both livestock and a dairy. For several years he drove a school bus for the Owen County Schools. He also loved auctions and refinishing items he would find there. He became known as the "Lamp-Man" for all the lamps he restored. Surviving are his sons, Gregory Hammond of Arizona; his daughters, Beverly Kaye (Roger) Maloney, Shirley (Hugh) Frost both of Cincinnati and Judy (Wallace) Traylor of Memphis, TN; his sisters, Bernice Harris, Beulah Cull and Emily (Chester) Marston all of Owenton; five grandchildren, Lara (Craig) Jensen, Brian (Jennifer) Frost, Kelly (Sam) Shirey, Jeffrey (Laney) Traylor and Nicholas Traylor. Six great grandchildren also survive, Anna and Jacob Henry Jensen, Owen and Casey Frost and Nathaniel and Christoper Shirey. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, October 11th from Noon until the time of the service at 1pm. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
