Helen Mcdonald Smith

Helen McDonald Smith, age 93, of Versailles, passed away at her home on Friday, July 2, 2021.

Born December 11, 1927, in Swallowfield, she was the daughter of the late Jim Clay and Clyde Giles McDonald.  She was the widow of James M. Smith and also preceded in death by her grandson, William Foster Tichenor, and her siblings, J.C. "Tate" McDonald and Norma Jean Wood. Helen was a graduate of Peaks Mill High School and a member of Swallowfield Church of Christ.  She worked for Genesco Shoe Company for 22 years and went on to retire from the Commonwealth of KY in the Cabinet for Human Resources after 22 years of service. She loved good food and cooking for those she loved.  Helen enjoyed being outside, especially in the vegetable garden. Holidays and spending time with family and friends were among her favorite things to do.

Helen will be missed by her daughter, Debbie (Carey) Tichenor; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Swallowfield Church of Christ, 13793 Swallowfield Road, Frankfort, KY 40601, on Monday, July 5, 2021 from 11am until 1 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Bro. Richard Mardis presiding. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Swallowfield Church of Christ or Monterey Cemetery.
