Hattie Mae Sanders Hill was born into the family of the late Herman and Jennie Lee Sanders on November 10,1925. She departed this life on March 31,2019. She accepted her faith in Christ early in age at Park Ridge Baptist Church, Sparta, Kentucky. She remained a devoted member there until her very last day, as she attended service the morning of March 31. Hattie loved her church and worked diligently as treasurer of the sick fund, dining room committee for various annual days and wherever she was needed until her health began to decline. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10.
Hattie graduated in 1945 from Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio. While attending school, she worked on the Army Base and at a Soda Fountain Shop to pay her room and board. In 1995, she was so excited to return to Dayton for her 50 th class reunion.
Hattie Mae Sanders Hill worked most of her life providing for her family. She farmed, did day work cleaning, washing and ironing. Hattie commuted to Frankfort, Kentucky for 25 plus years working for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She worked for the Department/s of Education and Rehabilitation upon her retirement. At one point, she was nominated and awarded a Kentucky Colonel. She also worked as a caregiver for a couple of agencies, as well as privately in Columbus, Indiana and Owenton, Kentucky. Later on, you could see her driving around Owen County, in one of her many hats, delivering meals on wheels. This always made a great topic for conversation, as she was older than the people she delivered to. Hattie did this for 17 years and retired at the age of 89, four months before she turned 90 as her health was beginning to prevent her to continue.
Hattie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved people and always made them feel welcomed in her home. She was kind and pleasant to those she encountered; whether it be in passing on the street, at the Post Office, Wal-Mart, Kroger, or her favorite—Aldi’s. She was well known for her cooking, baking, and candy making expertise. She especially loved making candy at Christmas time and giving it away. Hattie has given away enough Bourbon Balls and Pecan Logs to be a millionairess. “She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy”. Proverbs 31:20.
Hattie Mae Sanders was united in marriage to Stanley Hill at a young age and from this union she leaves four children to cherish fond memories: James Lee Hill, New Liberty, KY; Emma Jean Thomas(Richard), Eminence, KY; Stanley Hill, Jr.(Deborah), Elizabethtown, IN and Cathy Maxine Hill, New Liberty, KY. She also leaves Edward Brown and Gayle Harris(Gail) whom she loved like sons. Her sisters Gustava Brown and Gladys Smith; her brothers Orville Sanders and James Sanders, and her inherited siblings Retha Rose Webb and Claude Sanders all preceded her in death. She also leaves, inherited sisters Lana Kay Webb, Patricia Owens and Sallie Richards; her six grandchildren: Kerry, Jason, Leeann, Brandon, Reggie and Arien. Eighteen great grandchildren and one, fifth generation granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31: 25-31 (KJV).
