Gregory A Smoot

Greg Smoot, age 66, of Owenton, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at his home, overlooking the lake.

Born October 28, 1957, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Charles and Janice Ayres Smoot and was preceded in death by his beloved niece, Rebekah Blayne Allyn Gaines. A 1975 graduate of Owen County High School, he began his career in 1976 with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of Transportation and retired after 29 years and ended his career as the Owen County Road Supervisor. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church and an avid UK Basketball fan.  He loved spending time with family and friends, especially entertaining and cooking for them. He enjoyed golfing, camping, and going boating.  Most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and family.

Greg will be deeply missed by many, including his wife, Laura Crowley Smoot; her sons, Josh Snow and Joe (Jessica) Snow; grandchildren, Liam, Lucy, & Finn; his sister, Melissa (Terry) Gaines; niece, Kathryn (Matt) Tate; great niece and nephew, Mallorie and Luke; his mother-in-law Neva Jean (Tim) Crowley; brother-in-law, Mike (Tori) Miles; sister-in-law, Linda (Chad) Volkers; niece, Siobian (Gary) Pitts; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 11 am until 1 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier and Mike Haines presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions are suggested to Beka's Toppers.
