Grace Evelyn Masters Yancey, age 86, of Poplar Grove, Ky., passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at her residence.
Born January 18, 1935, in Woodford County, Ky., she was the daughter of Walker and Ethel Phillips Masters. She married her high school sweetheart, C.W. (Corty) Yancey in 1953, and they remained happily married until his death in January 2013. She was preceded in death by her elder sisters Opal and Marjorie, elder brother Lloyd Gene, and son-in-law Thomas Mushaben.
A lifelong lover of knowledge and learning, Grace was valedictorian of her senior class at Gallatin County High School in 1953 and enjoyed exploring new places while Corty served stateside in the US Army. Upon returning to Poplar Grove, she managed the Yancey farm for nearly 60 years, and was a dedicated member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where she frequently taught Sunday School.
Grace was an accomplished seamstress and skilled gardener who also enjoyed reading, word puzzles, quiz shows, and spending time with her beloved family and pets. She will be deeply missed by her sisters Shirley and Sue; daughters Anne (Brian) Krampe and Glenna; granddaughters Leigh (Ian) Hoopes and Erin (Andrew) Kiser; and the entire Poplar Grove community.
Her family will receive friends and loved ones at the McDonald & New Funeral Home on Main Street in Owenton, Ky., on Wednesday, October 27, from 10 am until 12 pm. Funeral services will be held at 12 pm, followed by burial at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
