Glenna Cox Schrader

Glenna Holbert Cox Schrader passed away July 26, 2023, at Masonic Home of Shelbyville. Born March 2, 1927, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Harland and Lydia Mae Giles Holbert. Glenna was a seamstress for Owenton Cleaners for over 10 years. For about four years, she worked for Larry Tackett’s Men’s Wear and simultaneously served as executive director of Owenton Housing Authority. She retired from the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet in 1992. She was a member of El Bethel Christian Church for 70 years, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in many church programs before moving to Frankfort and becoming a member of Capital City Christian Church. Glenna was married to Kenneth Cox of Henry County from 1945 until his death in 1979. Of their four children, Garry Gene, Glenn David, and Karen preceded her in death. In addition, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Elmer Giles Holbert and Charles Douglas Holbert; and two great-grandchildren, Katy Renee Cox and Brandon David Cox. From 1991 until his passing in 1995, Glenna was married to Rupert Schrader. His sons, Leon and Paul Schrader, and daughter, Ruby, and her husband, James Mefford, have also passed away. Survivors include a daughter, Janice (Dick) Ernst; daughter-in-law, Cheryal Cox; four grandchildren: Kenny, Gene, David, and Carolyn; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a stepson, Ben (Carla) Schrader, and step-daughters-in-law, Patty Jo Schrader and Ramona Schrader, and their families. The funeral will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at New Funeral Home on Main Street, Owenton. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to El Bethel or Capital City Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasureville Cemetery.
