Glen Allen True, age 87, of Glencoe, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020.
Born August 1, 1932, in the Squiresville community of Owen County, he was the son of the late W.H. "Whitey" and Virginia Yancey True. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Ray "Bill" True and his cousin C.W. "Corty" Yancey. Glen was a lifelong farmer raising tobacco and running a dairy. He attended Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where he joined as a young man and was treasurer for over 43 years. He served his country in the United States Army and rose to the rank of Corporal during the Korean War. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. His children will miss his homemade ice cream.
He will be missed by his wife, Shirley Masters True. They married on June 24, 1956, and recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. His daughters, Teresa "Terry" (Jim) Oppold of Cincinnati, OH, Jacquelyn "Jackie" (John) McDaniel of Dayton, OH and Danette "Dani" (Bradley Morrison) True of Lexington; his grandchildren, Adam Oppold, Clayton McDaniel and Eleanore McDaniel; his brother, Bruce (Patricia) True; his cousin Lloyd Yancey and several nieces and nephews.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at the Poplar Grove Cemetery on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 10:30. Bro. Tom Hall and Bro. Steve Miller will be officiating. Social distancing and masks will be required. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to the Poplar Grove Baptist Church for the Cemetery Fund.
The family is asking for anyone to share in writing, a memory, funny story, or note about how Glen Allen may have touched their lives. These will be collected into a binder and shared at a Memorial/Celebration of Life - at a later time when group gatherings are allowed again.
