Gladys Stewart

James Gladys Stewart passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on February 11, 1941, in Owen County, Kentucky, Gladys was the daughter of the late James and Mary Belle Smith Shirley.  

She dedicated much of her life to her family and her work. She spent several years as a housekeeper at Owen County Memorial Hospital and was a lifelong farmer, where she proudly raised tobacco and cattle. In 1974, Gladys married her husband, Billy Ray Stewart. Gladys was actively involved in her community, participating in the Owen County Senior Citizens Center and being a member of Salem Baptist Church. Her dedication to family, friends, and faith was evident to everyone who knew her.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Billy Ray Stewart, and her children: Michelle Shields, Hank House, Marty House, Mark Stewart, Kevin Stewart, and Billy James "BJ" Stewart. She treasured her twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her son, Nicky House, and her siblings: Ricky, Jean, June, and Rhonda. Gladys’s legacy will live on through her family and the memories they shared together. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit and unwavering love.

Private family services will be observed.
