Gilmer Russell Orsburn, age 94 of Owenton, KY, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY, after a brief illness. A life well lived, he will be greatly missed.
Born February 19, 1932, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mabel Russell Orsburn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Osborne Orsburn; brother, Raymond Burgess Orsburn; stepmother, Rose Wainscott Orsburn; half-brother Marvin Mikel, along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Gilmer was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. Gilmer worked for the State Highway Department and the Owen County Memorial Hospital, where he worked in the maintenance department.
He is survived by his children, Steve Orsburn and Tammy Bishop; his brother, Ricky (Linda) Orsburn; his sister, Rita Chowning; his grandchildren, Derrick Braden, Cody Orsburn, Nikki Johnson, and Jessica Benson; his great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Braden, John Winkle, Haisley Orsburn, Corbin and Emileigh Stivers, and great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte "Charly" Winkle and Marcy Benson. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Family will welcome friends at the Main Street location for visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 5 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 pm with Bro. Jared Guillion presiding. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Owenton Cemetery, and memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital.
