Gilbert Calbert Dawson

May 29, 1921 — December 30, 2012

Mr. Gilbert Calbert Dawson, age 91, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Born May 29, 1921, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Creola Howard Dawson and preceded in death by his son Terry and grandson Rodney. Also preceding him were his twin brother Hubert, his brothers, Howard, Charlie Ray and Ireland and two infant sisters. Mr. Dawson was retired from the Veterans Administration where he worked in manual art therapy. His life long passion was music, having joined his brothers to form the Dawson Brothers Band and later in life playing with Arnold Clark and the Old Timers. The old Timers enjoyed playing at nursing homes and retirement centers. Mr. Dawson served his country during World War II in the Army and was a member of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are his sons, Glenn (Linda) Dawson and David Dawson of Lexington; is first wife, Beulah Toll; a nephew who was raised like his brother, Pete Dawson; grandchildren, Greg Dawson and Julie Curry and three great grandchildren, Alex, Lydia and Cody. McDonald & New Funeral homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Thursday, January 3rd from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2pm with Bro. Larry Adkins presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
