George Leslie Race

George Leslie Race, 84, passed away August 18, 2023 at his home. He was born in Grant County the son of the late Leroy and Louella Taylor Race. He was also preceded by his wife, Kathleen Race, his siblings, Wanda Fay Race, Rosalie Oliver, Donald Race, Everett Race, Larry Race, Margaret Thurman, Gary "Tubby" Race, Roy Race Jr. and Ronald Joe Race and a son-in-law Phillip Beach. George was a truck driver for many years doing mainly city routes and was a farmer. He was a veteran having served in the Army 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Shiloh Full Gospel Church. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, farming and cooking fish. He was a good cook and enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving him are his three daughters, Tammy Beach, Denise Race and Kimberly (Bill) Aldridge, one brother, Floyd Race, one sister, Ruby Harris, ten grandchildren, Thomas, Steven, Brian, Jason, Jennifer, Adam, Ian, Danielle, Shane and Jeff, 28 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson with two on the way. Visitation will be on Tuesday Aug. 22 from 4 to 8 and the funeral will be on Wednesday Aug 23 at 11AM both at the Lighthouse Church. Burial will follow in the Wheatley Cemetery and memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Jude's.
