Gene Douglas Woolums, age 86, of Owenton, Passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Baptist Health in Lexington.
Born June 2, 1933, in the Beechwood community of Owen County, he was the son of the lateJames Everett and Flavie Olds Woolums. He was preceded in death by his wife Joretta Towles Woolums; his brothers, Charles and Lillard Woolums; his daughter in law Sherry Woolums and his great granddaughter Palmyr Keith. Gene served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict before returning to Owenton where he worked at the Kraft Cheese Factory. He retired from Johnson Controls as a machine maintenance mechanic with of 35 years of service. He was also a member of the Beechwood Assembly of God.
Gene is survived by his children, James "J.C." Woolums, Vanita (Jerry) Greene, Kelly (Richard) Green, Lisa (Curtis) Caldwell and Tonya (Darren) Keith; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and his siblings, Terry Wayne Woolums and Phyllis Barnes.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 10am until 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. Steven Lewis presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Palmyr's Playhouse .
