Gene Harris Mason

Gene Harris Mason, age 79, of Owenton, passed away Thursday, February 25 ^th ,2021. Gene was born December 30 ^th , 1941 in Owen County. He was the son of Thelma and C.B. Marston, who preceded him in death, along with his father, Woodrow Mason. Gene was a graduate of Owen County High School, class of 1959, where he was a star basketball player. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church. Gene retired after more than forty years of service with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. During his retirement, Gene enjoyed fishing and target shooting with friends. No matter the weather you would see him on his daily walk, where he helped keep the community free of litter. In 2015, he was awarded the Key to the City of Owenton for his dedication to community service.

Gene will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Beverly McDarment Mason, his daughters, Shannon (Tim) Cobb and Leigh New, his brother, Larry (Linda) Mason, and his grandchildren, Devon (Grant) Sharp, Colton New, Chamberlin Cobb, and Bradon New, who will always affectionately remember their “Gagy”.

McDonald & New Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, March 1 ^st from 11:00 to 2:00pm, with services at 2:00pm.
