Gayle Lewis Ballard, age 89, of Monterey, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the St. Joseph Hospice Center in Lexington. Born April 3, 1922, in Monterey, he was the son of the late Walter and Lillian Gill Ballard and was preceded in death by his brother, J.F. Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a Farmer and a member of the Monterey Baptist Church. He served his country during World War II in the US Army. During that time he was involved in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Ann Skirvin Ballard. A host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends also survive. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Friday, February 24th from 10am until 1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Bro. Bob Karsner presiding. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey Cemetery or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
