Gary Wright

Noel Garrett "Gary" Wright passed away on September 6, 2025, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, at the age of 72. Born on January 6, 1953, in Owenton, Gary dedicated many years of his life to the workforce, having begun his career at Fruit of the Loom before retiring as a welder from Johnson Controls. 

Gary spent many enjoyable moments playing pool at Sharkie Billiards and cheering passionately for UK Basketball and the Dallas Cowboys. An avid fisherman, Gary found joy and tranquility on the water, creating lasting memories with family and friends. 

Gary is survived by his loving family. He was a devoted father to his son, Bob Wright (Ashley), and his daughter, Brandie Whobrey (Kevin); his grandchildren: Destinee Slayback, Morgan Whobrey, Addisyn Wright, and Reagan Wright, as well as his great-grandchildren, Connor, Hadlee, Caroline, and Evelyn Slayback. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Debbie Osborne, Dana Colligan, Lanny Wright, and Donald Wright. He is also survived by Brooklyn Hamm, Christopher Hamm, Shawn Hamm, Lincoln Hamm, and Kylie Hamm..

Gary was preceded in death by his parents,  George Robert "Bobby" Wright and Myrtle Smith Burke, along with his brothers, Danny Wright and Billy Wright. 

A visitation will be held on September 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, leading into a funeral service at 2:00 PM at New Funeral Homes, 202 N. Main Street, Owenton, KY 40359. In this time of remembrance, Gary's family invites all who knew him to share in honoring his legacy and the impact he made during his lifetime. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery, and memorial contributions are suggested tothe  Owen County Children's Fund.
