Garland Tackett, age 74, of Monterey, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born October 10, 1941, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Juett and Mabel True Tackett and was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Lewis. Garland was a lifelong farmer and worked as a machine operator and forklift operator for over 30 years at Bendix. He loved dogs and in his younger years enjoyed coon hunting, pulling ponies, horses and fishing. Surviving are his wife, whom he married on May 2, 1964, Mary Lee Cook Tackett; his son, James Garland Tackett; his sister, Bonnie Flynn; his half-brother, Julian Tackett and his nieces and nephews, Ronnie Wheeler, Donna Banks, Anita Wilkerson, Darlene Wainscott, Phil Cook, Bo Flynn, Larry Flynn, Lynn Graves and Patty Wolf. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Wheeler, Phil Cook, Mike Banks, Steve Banks, Bruce True and Mike Wainscott. Honorary bearers will be Zach Banks, Billy Ballinger, Brian Karsner and Gary Wilkerson. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 11am until 1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
