Florence Catherine Ogden

Florence Catherine Gibson Ogden, age 84, of Owenton, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at the New Horizons Medical Center. She was the widow of the recently deceased Marvin Collin Ogden whom she was married to for 67 years. Born September 13, 1926, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Freddie Milton and Lillo Blossom Burford Gibson. She was preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Ogden was former clerk for Save More; she was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook, known affectionately as the “Bread Lady” for her sour dough bread. She was a member of the Owenton First Baptist Church where she was very active in the WMU, a past Church President and past County President as well. She was also a devout member of the Rebekah Lodge #123 for 52 years; she was a Past Noble Grand and held several state and district offices. Mrs. Ogden was the 1992 Mother of the Year and volunteered for 17 years in the Owen County Elementary and Primary Schools. Surviving her are three daughters, Phyllis Malcomb of Owenton; Nilda Kay Slatterly of Frankfort and Magarette Ruth Clark of Georgetown, IN; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a brother, Glen Dale “Buddy” Gibson and her sister Mavis Jones both of Owenton. McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Sunday, February 6th from 2-6pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Monday with Bro. Jesse Bourne and Bro. Brad Banks presiding. Memorial contributions are suggested to Owenton First Baptist Church.
