Florence Munson Giles

Florence Mae Munson Giles, age 85, of Monterey, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born May 3, 1938 on her family farm in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late John and Gladys Wainscott Munson.  She was the widow Leon Giles and preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Munson, Emma Juett, Billy Munson, Glenn Munson, and her twin Floyd Munson. Florence was a 1957 graduate of Owen County High School and retired from the Commonwealth of Ky in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. She enjoyed raising a garden and canning the vegetables, working puzzles, and watching the University of KY Wildcats play basketball.  Florence loved a trip to Belterra and playing cards with friends at the Monterey Market. She was also a country music fan, her favorite being Loretta Lynn.  More than most things, she enjoyed being "Mamaw 1" to her great grandson Liam.

Florence will be missed by her daughters, Sheila (E.T.) Glass and Theresa (Sam) Giles-Long; grandsons, Derrick (Amber) Ballinger, Eric (Susie Espinoza) Cooper, and Jarrod (Ashley) Allnutt; and great grandchildren, Liam Ballinger, Grayson Allnutt, Arlo, Amadeo, and Declan Cooper, and Lily and Mason Williams.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 11 am until 1 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with burial in Monterey Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey Cemetery.
