Eunice "Pooch" Wainscott

Eunice Mae “Pooch” Wainscott, 98, of Owenton, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at St, Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born July 12, 1910, in the Gratz Community of Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Sarah Morrow Smoot. She was preceded in death by her husband Jess Wainscott and her brother, William Smoot. Pooch was a 1928 graduate of the Old Owenton High School; prior to her death she was the oldest surviving graduate of the school. She was also the oldest member of the Owenton First Christian Church. She was very active in her church choir from an early age, having sung her first solo at 4 years old. Pooch was a homemaker, a farmer and loved to be outdoors. Pooch is survived by her daughter, Mary Betty (Pete) Haines of Owenton; three grandchildren, Mike (Cindy) Haines and Pat (Darrell) Smoot of Owenton and Jeff Haines of Mills, WY; four great grandchildren, Michael Rash, Jessica Smoot, Christopher Haines and Katie Haines. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Thursday, April 2nd, from 4-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Friday at the funeral home with Bro. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will be in the Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Owenton First Christian Church Renovation Fund.
