Eugene Thomas Smith, born February 26th, 1933, passed away March 8th, 2026, in the comfort of his home at the age of 93. 

He served in the Army for 2 years, retired from Bendix, and farmed most of his life. He enjoyed farming, gardening, boating, fishing, and hunting. On most warm days, he just enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and spending time on his farm. 

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Howard Smith, his children, Rita Wilson, Teresa (Wyatt) McDonald, and Philip Eugene Smith. He was proud of his grandchildren, Rodney (Sheila) Wilson, Shannon Cook, Kyle Wilson, Kelly Wilson, Kendall McDonald, Colin (Deanna) McDonald, Josh McDonald, and Courtney Smith. He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Zula B. Smith; his father, Fred Kay Smith; his sister Annabelle Wallace; and his brother Freeman Kay Smith.

The community is invited to honor Eugene's life at New Funeral Home, located at 202 North Main Street, on Saturday, March 14th, 2026. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am-1:00 pm, with the service following at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place in the Monterey Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey Cemetery.
