Eugene "Bugs" Douglas Vannarsdall

Eugene "Bugs" Douglas Vannarsdall, age 73, of Owenton, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at his home.

Born April 30, 1951, in Frankfort, and raised in Owen County, he was the son of the late Frank and Beulah Ellis Vannardall.  Bugs' work ethic and love for operating machinery began at an early age. At just 13 years old, he embarked on what would become a remarkable 50-plus-year career, riding the school bus each day to meet his Uncle Tib on various job sites. His passion for the work never waned, and he continued operating a bulldozer until the day he left this world.

A proud graduate of Owen County High School, Bugs was also a cherished member of Beechwood Assembly of God, where he attended from a young age. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly his love for fishing. Above all, Bugs cherished his role as "Popaw" to his beloved grandson, Bryce. The bond they shared was immeasurable, and Bryce brought endless happiness to his life.

Bugs was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Vannarsdall, whose memory he held close to his heart. He is survived by his loving son, Ryan (Kaylan) Vannarsdall; his grandson, Bryce Vannarsdall; his dear sister, Jaynie Vannarsdall; as well as a host of extended friends and family.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A funeral service to honor Bugs' life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Main Street location. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 11 am until the time of the service.  He will be laid to rest in the Owenton Cemetery beside his son.
