Elizabeth Black, age 103, of Florence passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the Florence Park Nursing Home.

Born April 21, 1917, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Roslin Keith Osborne.  She was the widow of James Cropper and Wallace Black.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Lily Poe, Berda Wilhoite, Bessie Parker, Kate Young, Frank Osborne, Margaret McPherron, Bryant Osborne, and Rosella Davis.  Mrs. Black was a devoted member of Peasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from St. Elizabeth Healthcare where she was a housekeeper for over 20 years at the Eastern Avenue location.  She loved watching her nightly episodes of Jeopardy, reading, and working crossword puzzles.  She was fiercely independent, doing laundry on a wringer washing machine until she was ninety-three.

She will be missed by her children, James Black of Covington and Linda Blanton of Florence; her granddaughter, Mary Blanton of Ludlow and her two great-grandchildren, Holly and Ivory.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Friday, May 29, 2020, from Noon - 2 pm.  This will be a pass-through visitation with social distancing and visitors are encouraged to wear masks. A graveside funeral will follow in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding.
