Eleanor "Ellie" Jean Duke

March 11, 1936 — November 12, 2018

Eleanor "Ellie" Jean Pierson Duke, age 82, of Owenton, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, surrounded by her family.  She fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 11, 1936, in Melrose, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ruth Martin Pierson.  On January 25, 1954, she married the love of her life, Glen O. Duke.  They were married for 60 years at the time of his passing in 2014.  Ellie was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Charles Tanner Duke and her brother Richard "Billy" Pierson.  Ellie was a homemaker and devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  She was an accomplished bowler in her younger years and enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband.  Ellie enjoyed her time with the Pleasant Home Homemakers, reading, crafting and collecting. She was a generous supporter of charities, including Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Ellie will be deeply missed by her family which includes her sons and their wives, Fred Pierson (Millie) Duke and David Glen (Catherine) Duke; her grandchildren, Mason Blair Duke, Logan Glen Duke and Jessica Marie (Greg) West; her great-granddaughter, Naomi June West and her brothers, Thomas (Phyllis) Pierson and Robert (Moe) Pierson and their families.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Friday,  November 16, 2018, from 4-8pm.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday with Bro. Dale Adkins presiding.  Memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators or Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
