Mildred Eileen Hale Thornton, age 96, died March 19, 2017 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home, Madisonville, KY. Born January 27, 1921, in the Sweet Owen community of Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Latha McGibney Hale. She was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband of 45 years, James B. Thornton. Mrs. Thornton was a graduate of the Owenton High School and the Bryant & Stratton Business College in Louisville. She went on to work for the United States Army at Lexington Signal Depot during WWII. Prior to moving into the nursing home, she lived in Henderson, KY where she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mizzpah Sunday School Class and Women on Missions Circle. At one time, she was a member of Parkland and Zion Homemakers Clubs. Surviving are her son, James B. Thornton, Jr and his wife Suzanne of Greenville, KY; her grandson Michael Scott Thornton and wife Laura of Clarksville, TN; her step-grandson Brian Miller of Greenville, KY as well as three great grandchildren. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm, Wednesday, march 22, 2017, in the Owenton Cemetery with Rev. John Allen Chamness presiding.
