Edith Rose Stewart Lewis, age 92, of Owenton passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Owenton. Born December 14, 1923 on Stewart Ridge in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late William Floyd and Achie Baldwin Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse James Lewis; her son, Emerson Lewis; her grand daughter Shelly Marie Dunavent; great grandson Daniel Isaac Olds and her siblings, Elizabeth, Glendola, Charles, Howard, Paul, Eual, James and Gayle. Edith was a faithful Christian, making sure her children were reared in a loving Christian home. She was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church and she and her husband blessed the community with over 50 years of music ministry to churches and nursing homes. She was a selfless woman, becoming a caregiver to her siblings at the age of 13 when their mother passed. Her siblings remarked they were among the best dressed at school because Edith took such care in ironing their clothing. Edith was a devoted volunteer for more than 20 years at the Owen County Clothing Center. Additionally, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, reading and gameshows. She was recognized for all her achievements when named Owen County Mother of the Year in 2010. Edith will be deeply missed by her children, Sandra (the late J. Howard) Olds, Wanda Dunavent and Charlotte (Bill) Hardin; her daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Lewis; her grandchildren, Wesley H.(Becky) Olds, Bradley Stewart (Jackie) Olds, Edie (Phillip) Groover, Rodney (Susan) Black, Brian (Trish) Black, Brad Allen (Michelle) Dunavent and Jessica Ashby Hardin; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ella, Carrie, Carter, McKenzie, Rachel, Adam, Luke and Lucy and her sister, Naomi (Robert) DeYoung. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday with Edith’s grandson, Rev. Wesley H. Olds presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to either Jonesville United Methodist Church or the Owen County Clothing Center.
