Douglas Gaines

Douglas Gaines, age 67, of Northport, Alabama and formerly of Owenton, passed away June 15, 2012. Born September 3, 1944, in the Hesler community of Owen County, he was the son of the late Louise Cobb and Everett C. Gaines and was also preceded in death by his brother Billy Walter Gaines, grandparents Cora and Gobel Cobb, and Walter and Verna Gaines and uncle Billy Ray Cobb. All from Owenton, Kentucky. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lois Slaughter Gaines, two daughters, Cynthia Gaines of Harrodsburg, KY and Stephanie (Dale) Hudson of Northport, Alabama; Five grandchildren, Jacob, Jeremy and Josh Hudson, Matthew Wilburn, and Bethany Bottoms; one great granddaughter, Annabelle Grace Hudson; his brother, Everett Gaines, Jr. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. God gave us the very best loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He never met a stranger and he loved to talk and enjoyed everyone. He has battled a long and difficult illness, but is now whole again in the presence of God. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 18th at 2pm, in the Owenton Cemetery, with Bro. David “Milweed” Wotier presiding. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of West Alabama or charity of choice.
