Dorothy J. Barger

Dorothy J. Barger, age 91, of Sparta, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020, at her home.

Born September 21, 1928, in Knoxville, TN, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Myrtle Viola Smith Major. She was the widow of John Barger and preceded in death by her sons, Robert and James Barger; her son-in-law, Bernie Deatonand her siblings, James Major, Muriel Hackworth, and Mildred Poston. Dorothy was a passionate cat lover and enjoyed trips to the casinos.  In her younger years, she enjoyed trips to play Bingo, badminton, and croquet.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Steve) Slubowski of Sparta, Raymond (Ginny) Barger of Frankfort and Charles (Karen) Barger of Oklahoma; her daughter-in-law, Karen Barger; her sister, Rose Cummins; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Private family services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2020, with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Cincinnati.  The family wishes in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Owenton Center Activities Fund.
