Dewayne R. Townsend

Dewayne R. Townsend, age 59, of Owenton passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, following a battle with cancer.

Born March 20, 1963, in Lexington KY, he was the son of the late Vernon R. "Red" Townsend and Sylvia "Jean" Brewer Townsend who survives.  Dewayne was a 1981 graduate of Lloyd High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Dewayne worked for over 10 years at Swords Lumber and then for another 15 years at Craig's Do-It Best Center where he was an assistant manager. He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed building and making things. He loved a good joke and was also a talented musician, playing the banjo and guitar from an early age.

Dewayne will be missed by his wife of nearly 30 years, Mary Beth Ellis Townsend; his mother, Jean Townsend; his children, Brittany (Logan Lynch) Townsend and Christopher "Chuck" (Zack) Townsend; his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Skylan; his brother, Vernon "Denny" (Rose) Townsend; his father-in-law, Donald Ellis; his sister-in-law, Amy (Andy) Wolfe; and his aunts Judy Bickel and Ina Smyth.

New Funeral homes are in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Noon, with visitation beginning at 11 am.  Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier will officiate and memorial contributions are suggested to New Funeral Homes for expenses.
