Deborah K. "Debbie" Whobrey, age 69, of Owenton, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Born June 2, 1954, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin "Bud" Stewart and Martha Meadows Stewart, who survives. Debbie was a lifelong resident of Owen County and graduated from Owen County High School in 1972 and went on to be a devoted member of the business community. She began her career in banking by working for eight years at First Farmers Bank. She retired from People's Bank, as an auditor, after 27 years of service. While working at People's, in 1999, she and her sister, Ruby, turned their culinary talents into a successful business known as Sisterly Touch Catering. Upon retirement, she purchased Petal's on the Square which eventually moved to the Sparta location. She operated Petal's, for sixteen years, until her health began to decline. In this role she brightened many people's days, celebrated weddings, new lives, and losses, and always gave back to her community, Debbie loved people, especially her family, farming beside her husband, being outdoors, and competing to catch the biggest fish. She enjoyed turning those fishing trips into delicious fish frys and never missed a good card game like Pitch or Rook. Her grandchildren will remember her for constantly watching Titanic, and having pecan ice cream and popcorn with movies.
Debbie will be deeply missed by her husband, whom she married in 1972, Danny Whobrey; her mother, Martha Stewart; her children, Brad (Amanda) Whobrey and Deanna (Jeremy) Stewart; her grandchildren, Brooklyn Brewer, Kendall Whobrey, and Toby Fitzgerald; her siblings, Glenn (Joan) Stewart and Ruby Stewart; and her faithful canine companion Bella.
