Born December 7, 1942, in Owenton, KY he was the son of the late Lawrence H. and Florence Schwandt Smith. He was a graduate of Owen County High School and served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church and a lifelong tobacco and cattle farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid UK fan. He especially loved watching his grandsons play sports.
David is survived by his wife, Freida Smith; his son, Kevin David (Mona) Smith; his grandsons, Alex and Zack Smith; his sisters, Carol Farrar and Joyce Duvall as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday with Bro. Tom Hall and Bro. Andrew Record presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Poplar Grove Baptist, Owen County Children's Fund or Sunrise Children Services.
