David Franklin Dougherty, 95, passed away Sunday October 18, 2020 at the Owenton Center. He was born in Trigonia, TN the son of the late Joseph F. and Ruth Cook Dougherty. He was also preceded by a son Mark Edward Dougherty, six siblings, James, John, Howard and Richard Dougherty, Evelyn Crockett and Judy Dougherty and just ten days ago his wife of 69 years, Juanita Dougherty. David and Juanita owned and operated the Owenton TV Service where he sold and repaired televisions for over 50 years. He also had a farm where he raised tobacco and cattle. During his time in the US Navy during WW II he was aboard the USS New York that shot down Japanese planes over Pearl Harbor and he witnessed the US flag being raised at Iwo Jima. As a lifelong member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church he was a deacon and former Sunday School director. In their spare time he and Juanita enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by a niece Lisa Meadows, great nephew, Benjamin Meadows, two sister-in-laws, Rue Dougherty and Jane Dougherty and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Thursday Oct. 22 at 11AM at Cedar Hill Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 1PM. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to Cedar Hill Baptist Church. McDonald and New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
