Danny Ray Hudnall, born on March 18, 1948, in Pleasant Home, was one of ten children of the late Shadie and Ruby Noel Hudnall. He lived a life full of adventure and service. He passed away on November 2, 2024, at the age of 76. A lifelong resident of Owenton, Danny was known for his dedication to the community. He served as the Volunteer Fire Dept Chief and President of the Jaycees, organizing professional wrestling matches, dances, and haunted houses and contributing to the development of local facilities, such as the Owen County Senior Center and the Softball Fields at the Fairgrounds. His son Paul remembers being involved in the Toys-For-Tots program when he was just a kid, where Danny set the example of generosity by repairing broken toys, wrapping, and giving them away on Christmas Eve to deserving children in the community.
He has shown up at some of the people's houses, who are reading this post, to put out a fire aAM, or drag a lake to recover a drowning victim. When he wasn't volunteering, he was working, showing up at our houses to jump-start our vehicles, or to tow vehicles in to fix at his garage. He sold cars out of his dealership, some on buy-here pay-here payments. And when someone couldn't afford it, he worked something out. He was witnessed giving away several vehicles over the years because he felt if he didn't the people would have no way to get around, pick up their meds, see the doctor, or shop for groceries.
His career included owning and operating Hudnall's Garage & Wrecker and Hudnall's Auto Sales for over 25 years, where he was known for his generosity, often helping those in need with transportation. Danny also served on the Owenton Police Department and the Owen County Sheriff's Office. A veteran, he spent time overseas in the Army. Prior to his military service, he spent a brief time in Chicago where he found his passion as a tow truck operator.
Danny's love for his family was evident in his passion for fishing and houseboat trips. He is survived by his son, Paul (Melissa) Hudnall; adopted sons, William "Mousie" Gibson and Orville "Speedy" Gibson; grandchildren, Mickey, Cory, Kayleigh, Levi, Anna, Hunter, Skylar, Sophia, and Rachael Hudnall; siblings, Barbara Gorski, Shadie Hudnall Jr., and Kathy Adams; lifelong friend, Marty (Tina) Lilly; friend, Maurie Prather; and his beloved dog, Snickerdoodle.
He was preceded in death by his son, Danny "Spanky" Hudnall, Jr.; his wife, Carol Collins Hudnall; and siblings, James, Delbert, and Lloyd Wayne Hudnall, Joyce Hamner, Edith Prather, and Annie Prather.
Funeral services will be held at New Funeral Homes, Seminary Street location, with visitation on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 4 - 8 pm, and the funeral on Friday at 2 pm, officiated by Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier. Danny will be laid to rest beside his wife and son in the Owenton Cemetery. He will be remembered for his kindness, service, and the love he shared with his community and family.
