Damon Arnold Rains, age 100, of Owenton, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home.
Born December 1, 1921, in the Rockholds community of Whitley County, KY, he was the son of the late Nolan and Roxie Moyers Rains and the widower of Rose Mary Marich Rains. He was also preceded in death by his son Ronald Dennis Rains , and siblings, Lloyd, Ova, Herman, Carl, Vernon, Alma, Katie, and Virginia. Mr. Rains served his country in the United States Army, during World War II, where he was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars. He was the Thistle Downs Track superintendent and loved farming and raising chickens. Mr. Rains enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and watching baseball and football.
He will be missed by his children, Maynard (Sandy) Rains of Laguna Niguel, CA and Cindy (the late Michael) Piccirillo of Owenton; his grandchildren, Michael Piccirillo, III, Nicole (Steve) McCarthy, Rosie (Felippe) Moreira, and Nicole Rains; great grandson, Cameron McCarthy; and his brother, Bert Rains.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location, 248 W. Seminary Street Owenton, Kentucky 40359, on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 4 - 7 pm.
Family will also receive friends in Cleveland, OH on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 4 - 6 pm at FORTUNA FUNERAL HOME, 5316 Fleet Ave. Interment with Graveside Service will be Monday, July 25, 2022 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Bedford Heights, OH at 11 am. All are asked to meet at the Fleet Funeral Home by 10:15 am if going in the funeral procession.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Long Ridge Baptist Church, 3575 US-127, Owenton, KY 40359.
