Crystal Ann New, affectionately known as Crissy, was born on February 11, 1978, in Carrollton, Kentucky, and departed this world on November 24, 2025, in Owenton, Kentucky. A beacon of light in the lives of many, her journey through life was marked by her unwavering passion for education, love for the arts, and deep connections with those around her.
A lifelong learner, Crissy was a graduate of Owen County High School. She continued her education by completing her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Midway College. She went on to receive her Master's Degree in Special Education from Georgetown College. She began her teaching career as a Rank 1 Special Education Teacher at Owen County Upper Elementary, where her dedication and compassion shone brightly. She later brought her expertise to Bowling Middle School, nurturing young minds with patience and creativity. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, touching the hearts of countless students and colleagues alike.
Crissy's passion for travel took her to beautiful beaches and the bustling city of Chicago, where she reveled in exploring new sights and cultures. Music was one of her great loves, with The Beatles holding a special place in her heart. Crissy delighted in attending concerts with friends, where the rhythms and melodies would weave through her spirit, a joyous celebration of life. A talented artist, she found solace in drawing and sketching, capturing fleeting moments with her deft hands. She was a voracious reader, relishing stories across genres that ignited her imagination.
Crissy's vibrant spirit lives on in her beloved daughter, Grace Perkins, who carries forward her legacy of compassion and creativity. She is survived by her devoted mother, Anna New, and father, Gary New. The warmth of family also encompasses her paternal grandmother, Lucille Howard, along with uncles Clarence (Renee) Clifton, Allen (Donna) New, and Eddie New. Her great-aunt, Peggy Rose, her loyal dogs, Honey and Millie, and her cherished cats, Teddy, Smokey, and Ben, as well as a host of extended family and close friends, further complete her family tapestry.
She was preceded in death by her uncle Bill (Linda) Clifton and her furry best friend, Otis, whose unconditional love was a constant source of comfort. The memories of Crissy will echo in the hearts of those lives she touched with her grace and kindness.
A memorial gathering in honor of Crissy will take place on December 1, 2025, at the Main Street location of New Funeral Homes in Owenton, Kentucky, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions in Crissy's memory are suggested to Owen County Friends of Animals or the Melanoma Foundation.
