Cordelia Mary Sparrow

Mrs. Cordelia Mary Sparrow, age 101, of Owenton passed away at her residence on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Born November 9, 1915 in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late C.J. and Mary Saylor Hill and was preceded in death by her sister Ella Kay Walton. Mrs. Sparrow was a graduate of Berea College and a teacher for the Owen County School Systems. She also worked for several years as the Home Economic Management Agent with Farmer's Home Administration. She served her country during WWII in the United States Navy and was a long time member of First Christian Church. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Archie Clarence "A.C." Sparrow, Jr.; her sons, Roger (Susan) Sparrow and Dickie (Renelle) Sparrow; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangemetns. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 5 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday with Rev. Greg Guy presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or First Christian Church.
