Charles Simmons, Jr.

Charles Simmons, Jr., age 69, of Monterey, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born April 24, 1952, in Lexington, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Frances Huddleston Simmons and was recently preceded in death by his brother Sambo Simmons. Charlie worked for over 31 years for Omer Claxon, performed small engine repair, and retired as a mechanic with the Owen County Road Department. He was also a longtime farmer, raising tobacco and hay, and hauled fertilizer.  He enjoyed playing pitch at the Monterey Market and spending time with his grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his children, Charlotte (Chris) Cox and Charles (Rose) Simmons, III; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Wayne Simmons, Mary Kay Shuler, and Mary Jane Austin.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, May 10, 2021, from 11 AM - 2 PM for a pass-thru visitation. Mask and social distancing are required. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Everett Hawkins presiding. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey Cemetery. Live stream available here.
