Charles "Pete" M. Haines

Mr. Charles M. "Pete" Haines, age 86, of Owenton passed away at his home November 2, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Jonesville, KY on January 25, 1928 to Chester M. and Anna Laura Elliott Haines. Pete was a 1945 graduate of Dry Ridge High School and served his country in the United States Navy. He worked for Owenton Motor Express, Peoples Bank and Thomas Hardware before serving as an examiner and chief examiner with the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions for thirty years. He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of the Owenton Lions Club. Pete was a member of the OCHS Boosters Club and was a timer and scorekeeper for OCHS Basketball from 1958-1976. He is survived by his wife, Mary Betty Wainscott Haines; his children, Mike (Cindy) Haines, Pat (Darrell) Smoot and Jeff Haines all of Owenton; his sister, Alma Ruth (Joe) Grossberg of Menifee, CA; niece, Carol (Mike) Swickard of Las Cruces, NM and four grandchildren, Chris Haines, Katie Haines, Jessica Smoot all of Owenton and Michael (Tamara) Rash of Georgetown. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Wednesday, November 5th from 3pm until 7:30pm. Funeral services will follow at 7:30pm with Bro. Greg Guy presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
