Gerald Bruce True, of Owenton, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at Baptist Health in Lexington. Bruce was just a few weeks shy of his 83rd birthday.
Born July 26, 1941, in Frankfort, he was the son of the late George E. and Katherine Perry True. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as the treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He served his country in the United States Army as an MP for three years and later in the Army Reserves. As a younger man, he loved a fast car and drag racing, and often cut cedar trees for gas money to fund his passion. Bruce was a mail carrier for 25 years and a longtime farmer, raising tobacco, hay, and cattle. He was an avid knife collector who enjoyed attending festivals and knife shows. He also enjoyed reading, especially westerns.
Bruce will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Fay Riddle True; his daughter Jennifer True; and his aunts, Larraine Miller and Charlsey Smith.
New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends for visitation, at the Main Street location, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Friday with Bro. Tim Carpenter, Bro. Everett Hawkins and Bro. Bill Craft officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the church.
