Billy "Buddy" Wilhoite

Billy C. "Buddy" Wilhoite, 84, of Owenton, peacefully passed away at home on September 25, 2026.

Born on April 14, 1942, in Monterey, Buddy was the son of Hawk and Fannie Bibb Wilhoite. He shared a wonderful life with his late wife of 60 years, Janet Sue Yancey Wilhoite. He was also preceded in death by his son, Marc Wilhoite; his sister, Patricia True; and brothers-in-law, Darrell Eversole and Billy Yancey.

Buddy was a lifelong farmer on Mint Springs Road, growing tobacco and corn and raising cattle, and a valued member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Many will remember his dedication as a bus driver for the Owen County School System and his generosity in hauling water for others. His passions included hunting, fishing, playing cards, and watching sports, especially UK Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. His pheasant-hunting trips to Nebraska with family and friends were among the best times in his life, and his love for his birddogs was undeniable. Above all, being "Papaw" to his three grandchildren was his greatest joy.

He is deeply missed by his son, Gregory Clay Wilhoite; grandchildren, Zach Ripy, Megan Wilhoite, and Katelyn Wilhoite; brothers, Donald and Jerry Wilhoite; nephew, Nick Wilhoite; and great-nephew, Waylon Wilhoite.

Visitation will be held at the Main Street location on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm. Buddy will be laid to rest in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. Dale Adkins and Bro. Dale Griggs officiating.
