Betty Carolyn Miller

April 17, 1947 — December 31, 2023

Betty Carolyn Miller, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at her home.  She was born on April 17, 1947, the daughter of the late Agnes Miller.

Betty lived in Owenton the majority of her life, graduating from Owen County High School in 1965 and went on to host a variety of careers in her lifetime here in Owen County as well as surrounding counties.  She was the first female installer, and repairer for South Central Bell Telephone in 1974.  In the 1980’s she worked for the W.R. O’Nan Company out of Frankfort repairing highway bridges on the Ohio River.  She held her CDL license until the mid 2010’s driving commercial Propane trucks for Southern States and Amerigas.  She also drove a school bus for Owen County School Systems at one point in her life and was even a security guard at the Owen Couty Judicial Center.  After retirement, Betty was a dedicated worker at Meeting the Needs Ministry in Owenton where you would find her every Tuesday and Thursday.

Betty’s first love was horses.  She was an avid horse lover her entire life showing walking horses for many years, then showing and training Appaloosa Horses until in her later years she began raising and showing American Quarter Horses and Palomino Horses.  Betty was an extremely accomplished horsewoman winning multiple world and reserve world titles at the Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA) as well as the American Ranch Horse Association (ARHA).

Betty will be deeply missed by her close friends Don and Ruby Shoemaker, Gene and Cara Stewart, Pat Miller, Tilda Smith, and her longtime faithful canine companion Lil Dude, in addition to a host of extended family and friends.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Private graveside services will be held in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. John Wyatt presiding.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Meeting the Needs Ministry and Palomino Horse Breeders of America, 15253 E. Skelly Drive, Tulsa, OK 74116.
