Betty Chandler Keith, age 86, of the Sweet Owen community in Owen County, passed from this life on Friday, July 16, 2021, at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood.
Born October 30, 1934, in Sweet Owen, not far from her current residence, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Katherine Keith Chandler. She was the widow of Eddie Wayne Keith. Betty and her husband owned and operated the Sweet Owen General Store for over 13 years. After selling the store in 1975, she worked for the Three Rivers Health District until her retirement and later for the City of Owenton. She was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, serving for many years as choir director, organist, and Sunday School teacher. She loved her church and church family dearly. She was an accomplished musician and, as a member of the Sweet Owen Stringers, enjoyed performing at local festivals, parties, and family gatherings. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
Betty will be deeply missed by her children, Phillip Keith and Debbie Keith; her grandchildren, Kelly (Matt) Cammack and James (Mariah) Keith; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Annastyn, and Haisley Cammack, and Raylan and Ruth Ellen Keith. She was preceded in death by her brother, Morgan Chandler and is survived by her siblings Kenneth ("Pete") Chandler and Sherry (Thomas) Williams and her sister-in-law, Gloria Chandler.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from 5 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 am at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
