Betty Walker Chappell

Betty Walker Chappell, age 86, of the Wheatley community, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at Signature Healthcare in Carrollton, KY.

Born October 27, 1937, in Owenton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Grace Allen Schooler Walker. She was also preceded in death by her son, Lynn Chappell, and her brothers, Maurice Lee Walker and Henry Wiliford Walker. Betty was a 1955 graduate of Owen County High School and went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky with a home economics degree.  She taught for a brief time and had a 30-plus-year career at the Maurice Bowling Middle School as the school secretary. She was. longtime member of Dallasburg Baptist Church where she was the organist for more than 50 years.  She also served the church as the Sunday school clerk for several years.

Betty will be missed by her children, Maurice (Becky) Chappell, Glenn Chappell, and Neese (Tim) Chilton; her grandchildren, Logan Baker, Nick (Eko) Chappell, Grace Chilton, and Ben Chilton; great-grandchildren, Kemper Chappell, Kyelynn Chappell, and Josephine Hayes Chilton; her niece Martha Oldenburg; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 11 am until 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Michael David presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions are suggested to the Educational Excellence Foundation of Owen County (EEFOC) or Dallasburg Baptist Church.
