Berta Catherine Gayle

Berta Catherine Gayle, age 78 of Sparta, passed away on February 1, 2012 at her home. Born April 24, 1933, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Ora Lillie Anderson Garnett and the widow of George Gayle. Also preceding her in death were her son, Henry Gayle and her sister, Lou Frances Garnett. Mrs. Gayle was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She also was the Director of Owen County Senior Service and worked as a teacher’s aide. She was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church of New Liberty. Surviving are her sons, John William Gayle, George Willie Gayle, Walter Alexander Gayle, Archie James Gayle, David Geronimo Gayle and Henry Edward Gayle; her daughters, Veronica Gayle, Constance Regina Gayle and Emma Elizabeth Centers; her brothers, Claude and James Garnett; her sisters, Jean Jackson, Bessie Lee, Pauline Killion and Regina Lee. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Veronica and George Tisdale, Renita Watson, Jennifer Centers and Chacarla Humphrey and Madeline Gayle and her great grandchildren, Aydon Tisdale, Derrius and Araylee Watson and Pablo McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, February 6th from 1-5pm. Funeral services will follow at 5pm with Rev. James Kendricks presiding. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Second Baptist Church of New Liberty.
