Bernice Elaine Bourne

Bernice Elaine Bourne, 95, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the Owenton Center.

Bernice was born June 1, 1925, in Owen County, to the late John and Edna Heath Wainscott. She married Olden Ray Bourne on March 15, 1946, and they spent 62 years together. Ray preceded her in death in 2008.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, two brothers, son-in-law, and two great-grandchildren. Bernice retired at the age of 78 from the Owen County School Systems, where she served meals to many children who knew her as "Granny".  She had also worked at Eades Food Market and Medowview. She was a lifelong member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryal Cox of Bethlehem, Carol Tudor of Jonesville, and Yalonda (Roger) Toole of Ghent; six grandchildren, Kenneth R. Cox, David (Karen) Cox, Carolyn (Jimmy) Eviston, Gene (Janet) Cox, Ryan Toole, and Christa Taylor; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 11 AM - 2 PM for a pass-thru visitation. Mask and social distancing are required. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Bill Allen presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Live stream available here.
