A.T. Morgan

d. September 11, 2012

A.T Morgan, formerly of Owenton, Ky. passed away peacefully on his 98th birthday, Tuesday, September 11th at Mayfair Manor in Lexington, Ky. A.T. was the son of the late Arvon T. Morgan and Virginia R Morgan. Even at an early age, A.T. was already showing signs of his adventurous nature when he began hopping trains with the local hobos as they traveled from town to town. He was fascinated by their nomadic lifestyle and by "eating pork and beans out of a tin can over an open fire". His first job was working as a soda jerk at Vanlandingham's Drug Store in Owenton where he made the best milkshake in town. In later years after serving his country in WWII, A.T. owned and operated the very successful Morgans Jewelry in the courthouse square, "fulfilling many dreams" for many years. At 55, he retired and sold his jewelry store to travel extensively throughout the world with his beloved Eileen. It was during this period of his life when he developed a love and artistic skill for painting in oil. He continued to enjoy this hobby throughout the rest of his active life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Eileen Roland Morgan, his sisters Mary Virginia Munster, Ruth Gray, Kathleen Reed, Margaret Ann Kemper, and nephew Brent Kemper. Surviving family members are nieces Joy Neiser, Judy Kanerman, Ginny Hall, Peggy Marx, Kathleen (Kitty) Morris, Margo Karsner, Kay Morgan Hawkins, Alberta Kemper, Anne Carter, Teresa Blair, Debbie Slusher, Cindy Sanders Logan, Pat Sanders Blackburn, and nephew Dr. Michael C Sanders. A.T. lived life fully engaged in celebrating every moment. He lived it with humility, integrity, much love, a definite sense of style, and no regrets. He's now living the eternal celebration in the presence of our Lord. Party on, Uncle Tom. A memorial service will be held at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Seminary St. location on Sunday, Sept. 16th at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Owenton Public Library or the charity of one's choice.
