Anthony “Tony” England, age 77, of Carrollton and formerly of the Elk Lake community in Owen County, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
Born on March 25, 1947, in Augusta, KY, Tony was the son of the late Herbert and Virginia Feagan England. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and began a long and meaningful career as a beloved music teacher and choir director at Owen County High School in 1970. Over the years, he shared his passion for music with countless students, inspiring many to pursue their own musical journeys.
Mr. England's talents extended far beyond the classroom. He traveled to Europe with a touring choir, directed the Frankfort Community Choir, and was well-known for his heartfelt renditions of Amazing Grace. His powerful voice graced many weddings and special occasions throughout the years.
For many years, Tony lived in the Elk Lake community, where he cherished the beauty of the area and the friendships he built. In retirement, he could often be found enjoying meals with friends at the Smith House Restaurant or Elk Creek Winery, where he delighted in good food, music, and fellowship.
Mr. England was preceded in death by his brother, Joe England. He is survived by his cousins, Jerol Plummer and John (Mary) England; his friend and caregiver, Kim (Paul) Brewer and her family; and his close friends, Bill and Elaine Jones.
A memorial service celebrating Mr. England’s life will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Elk Creek Winery, a place he dearly loved.
