Ruth McDonald, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on July 15, 1933, Ruth's life was one of love, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Ruth devoted her life to nurturing her loved ones. She was a dedicated mother to her son, Jeff (Wanda) McDonald, and her daughter, Juliana McDonald. Her greatest joy came from her role as a grandmother, embracing every moment spent with her grandchildren: Taylor (Morgan) McDonald, Kaylan (Zo) Hird, Angie Gibson, and Andrew (Mindy) Gibson. Ruth was not only a grandmother but also a great-grandmother to a loving family: Logan, Alex, Olivia, Amiyah, Dustin (Kiley) , Colton (Elise) , and Cainnon; a great-great-grandchild, Nolan Scott Gibson, with a great-great-granddaughter on the way, ensuring her legacy of love continues to flourish through generations.
Throughout her life, Ruth found happiness in many activities that reflected her vibrant spirit. She was passionate about gardening, a pursuit that allowed her to cultivate both beautiful blooms and cherished memories. A talented organist, she graced the church with uplifting music, harmonizing faith and passion in every note. Ruth was also a gifted watercolor artist, skillfully portraying the world around her with delicate colors and strokes. Her creativity extended to quilting and sewing, crafting pieces that brought comfort and warmth to her family. She enjoyed solving crosswords, an activity that kept her mind sharp and engaged. Fishing with her beloved husband, Leon McDonald, was yet another cherished pastime that stitched the fabric of their life together—a partnership founded on love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Ruth was preceded in death by her treasured husband, Leon McDonald; her father, Robert L. Rodgers; her mother, Alice Triplett; and two brothers, Bill Rodgers and James Robert Rodgers. Their memories lived on in Ruth's heart, and she carried their love with her throughout her life.
As we remember Ruth, let us celebrate a woman who embodied grace and resilience, filling her days with joy and purpose. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and the growing generations beyond, forever inspired by her love and creativity.
A private graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort, Ky.
